Hagia Sophia is a Museum or a Mosque Place ?
Hagia Sophia was built in the year 532 CE. After the conquest of Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453, it was converted into a mosque. It served as a church for 916 years and 86 years as a museum. But for most of its existence – from 1453 to 1934, or nearly 500 years – it served as a mosque. Later, In 1985, Hagia Sophia was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. So, the historic shrine was converted into a museum in 1934 and was restored to mosque status in 2020. Aside from being a mosque, Aya Sofia is one of Turkey’s top tourist destinations. This place is always open to domestic and foreign visitors.
