Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a unique move, Saudi Arabian Airlines has announced the retirement of three Boeing 777 aircraft from its fleet. Instead of scrapping the planes, the airline plans to repurpose them as a tourist attraction in Riyadh.

The retired aircraft were flown from Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) to Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport (RUH), where they will undergo a transformation into an immersive tourist experience.

Boulevard Runway: A New Destination

The project, dubbed “Boulevard Runway,” aims to create an interactive and educational space showcasing Saudi Arabia’s aviation history. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the aircraft’s fuselage, cockpit, and cabin.

“The Boulevard Runway project reflects our commitment to innovation and creativity,” said Saudi Arabian Airlines CEO, Captain Ibrahim Koshy. “We’re excited to offer a unique experience that combines aviation, education, and entertainment.”

Features and Attractions

The Boulevard Runway will feature:

  • Interactive exhibits on Saudi Arabia’s aviation history
  • Guided tours of the aircraft
  • Flight simulation experiences
  • Aviation-themed restaurants and cafes
  • Souvenir shops

Economic Benefits

The project is expected to generate significant revenue for the local economy, creating new job opportunities and stimulating tourism in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabian Airlines has emphasized its commitment to sustainability by repurposing the retired aircraft, reducing waste, and promoting eco-friendly practices.

Opening Date

The Boulevard Runway is slated to open in early 2025. Tickets will be available online, with special discounts for Saudi citizens and residents.
